Blue Jays Holiday Wish List

Each holiday season, people wish for gifts they would like to receive. Looking at the Toronto Blue Jays, they and their fans have wishes, even after a successful 2020 season. So, let’s take a look at five wishes every Blue Jays fan would like for 2021.

Sign a Big Time Free Agent

A couple is rumoured to be linked to the Blue Jays, namely Springer and LeMahieu. Either one of those players would significantly improve the team in numerous ways. Plus, it’s always exciting to see a big-name player choose your favourite team over other suitors. It doesn’t have to be one of those players, it could even be Trevor Bauer if that’s possible, but any all-star player would be a welcomed addition to this young team.

Guerrero Jr. to take the next step

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was easily the most hyped prospect to ever join the Toronto Blue Jays after destroying minor league baseball. So far, he has had two good years with the Blue Jays; the problem is fans weren’t expecting Guerrero Jr. to be good. They were expecting him to be great.

He’s only 21 and will have just turned 22 once the 2021 MLB season begins, but fans would love to see him take the next step. The defence is a whole different story because that wasn’t what gave him all the hype. It was what he could do at the plate. He doesn’t need to be the best hitter in the league at 22, but for him to hit 30 or more home runs next season and hit close to .300 would sure make a ton of Blue Jays fans very happy.

Pearson to stay healthy

The Jays have an ace for the time being in Ryu, but their prize pitcher is Nate Pearson. Because of injuries, Pearson only started four games for the Jays in 2020. He has all the makings of being an elite starting pitcher in the major leagues, and reps are what he needs right now. He’s only 24, and him staying healthy and getting 20 plus starts in 2021 would be fantastic for his development.

Find which catcher is our number one

For a while there, it was looking like Danny Jansen was clearly the catcher of the future. Then you remember the Jays have McGuire and Kirk as well, and the picture gets a little less clear. Each player has had some impressive moments but hasn’t been able to solidify their spot as the real number one catcher in Toronto.

All three are under the age of 26, so there is room to grow. Jansen was terrific in the two playoff games last season, and the Jays would love him to carry that type of play over to 2021 and take the starting job and run with it. That would also give the jays a clear picture on which one they could possibly dangle in trade offers. So far, though, it’s not clear enough to point your finger at one of them and say, “That’s our catcher of the future.”

Teoscar to not be a one-hit-wonder

Teoscar Hernández was the breakout star of 2020 for the Blue Jays, being a dominant force at the plate and winning the silver slugger award for the first time in his career. Batting .289 with 16 home runs and 34 RBI’s, Hernández emerged as one of the league’s best hitters. Jays fans would love nothing more for him to continue being that dominant through what hopes to be a full 162 game schedule in 2021.
