Blue Jays Weekly Recap: June 21 – 27

Now that’s more like it for the Toronto Blue Jays. After struggling mightily the week prior, the team responded nicely this week by winning five of six. Two wins against the Marlins gave them the series sweep before taking three of four against the Baltimore Orioles.

The Blue Jays needed a week like this to get back into the hunt for the Playoffs. They now sit at a record of 40-36. They would love to improve upon that in the final few weeks before the All-Star Game on July 13th.

Springer Returns to the Lineup

George Springer made his long-awaited return to the lineup for the first time since May 2nd on Tuesday against the Miami Marlins. He didn’t register a hit in his first two games back, as his first hit came against the Orioles on Friday, which was a home run.

Having Springer back as a consistent presence in this lineup makes it so much more dangerous than it already is. It will take him a little while to get back up to speed, but once he is, the Blue Jays will have their ideal lineup on the field, and fans can start seeing what this team is genuinely made of from top to bottom.

Romano finding a groove

Jordan Romano pitched in four of the six games this week and didn’t allow a single run. His ERA is continuing to drop and is currently at 1.26.

He is establishing himself as the best option out of the bullpen for the Blue Jays, who desperately need quality arms in that area. The task will now be placed on Charlie Montoyo not to overplay Romano because he’s the best option out of the bullpen. They need to manage his usage, so he’s fresh and healthy in the most crucial situations.

Guerrero Jr. Refuses to slow down

Just another casual week for Guerrero Jr., with three home runs and seven RBIs in six games. This isn’t even news anymore; no one is surprised by the way he is performing. He’s faced the challenge of consistency head-on and is proving every week that this is who he is.

He is currently tied with Shohei Ohtani for the league lead in home runs and leads the league in RBIs with 66. We are currently witnessing one of the greatest single-season run by a Blue Jays player ever, so just sit back and enjoy it.

Looking Ahead

Toronto returns to action on Tuesday night as they open a three-game set against the Seattle Mariners. They then welcome the Tampa Bay Rays for three games beginning on Friday. Both teams will provide a tough test for the Blue Jays, so it will be a telling week if the Blue Jays are ready to be among the league’s best.
