I’ll make this nice and simple. I want Home Runs. I want to watch Vladdy mash a ball 450 feet dead centre in the bottom of the ninth to walk off the Yankees. I want to watch the Jays crush the Red Sox 13-5 while I’m sitting back and crushing beers. I want more offence, not less.
If the MLB thinks that deadening balls will help boost ratings, they’re wrong. People want to watch high scoring, fun games that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Very few people want to watch a 2-1 snooze fest that has a combined total of 5 hits over the course of the entire game.
I understand that fundamentals are important, but you’d be hard pressed to find someone who gets more excited to see a well-executed sac bunt instead of a moonshot home run. That’s just the facts, sorry.
Don’t deaden the balls. Offence and high scoring games are fun, and baseball needs more fun. Pitchers will adjust, just like goalies in the NHL have had to, and how defenses in the NFL have had to adjust to rules that protect the Quarterbacks and receivers. Give me homeruns and lots of them, because I’ve never heard of anyone getting bored watching players crush bombs all game.
