Hernández had the best offensive season in his career in 2020, batting .289 with 16 home runs and 34 RBI’s in 190 at-bats.
2020 was Hernandez’s third full season in a Blue Jays uniform since being acquired in 2017 from the Houston Astros.
Before this season, Hernández had never finished a season above .261in batting average. This season though, he took a more patient approach at the plate, being much more selective with what he swings at. This season, the adjustment worked as he had 23 extra-base hits to go along with a career-high OPS of .919.
This is the first silver slugger award of Hernández’s career. The last Blue Jays to win a silver slugger award was Josh Donaldson back in 2016.
